Does Restoration Abbey have a Slack or group chat?

Yes. The congregation stays connected through a Slack workspace where meals, rides, prayer requests, and practical help get organized during the week. The invitation is shared in person rather than posted online, and someone can walk you through joining on any Sunday.

Do I have to join a group to belong here?

No. Plenty of people worship at Restoration Abbey on Sundays for a long while before joining anything else, and that is a real way to be part of the church. Groups are there whenever you want one.

Friendship is central to our life together

It is the mission. Most of that happens on a weeknight, in someone's living room, over food.

A church can run a great Sunday and still leave everyone strangers. What keeps that from happening here is unglamorous and it works: people who live near each other eating together on a weeknight, on purpose, for years.

Parish groups

What is a parish group?

A parish group is a small group from Restoration Abbey that meets in a home on a weeknight, sorted roughly by where you live rather than by age or life stage. There are groups in Carlsbad, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido, and going to the one in the next town over is fine. Groups eat together, pray, and form friendships with others in their own neighborhoods. New groups begin on Wednesdays in September.

Staying connected

Our week happens in Slack

Between Sundays, this church lives in a Slack workspace. It is where meals get organized when someone has a baby or a diagnosis, where rides get arranged, where people ask for prayer at odd hours, and where someone eventually asks for help moving a couch.

We do not post the invitation online. It is the working life of a congregation rather than a public channel or a mailing list, and we keep it that way on purpose.

If you want in, come on a Sunday and say so. Someone will sit down with you and walk you through joining the chats that morning. It takes about two minutes, and then you are in the couch-moving business with the rest of us.
